This project presents a complete 3D workflow study of a Kponyugu mask, a traditional African masquerade form recognized for its striking construction, symbolic density, and ritual function. The work covers the full pipeline, from digital sculpting through texturing and final rendering, with an accompanying video documenting the entire process.
The sculpt was developed with close attention to form language and structural balance, informed by cultural references. Texturing was completed in Substance 3D Painter, using a combination of smart materials, hand-painted details, and roughness variation to convey age, use, and material contrast. The final renders aim to present the asset as a production-ready piece suitable for games, film, VR, and digital heritage visualization.
This project is part of my broader practice focused on digitally documenting and reinterpreting traditional African cultural forms, exploring how contemporary 3D tools can support preservation, storytelling, and immersive cultural experiences.
